Thanks Norm
Hi Norm Pete from Jacobs Well when you get there be cautious of crocks I confronted one in the kayaks on the north side 2 years ago and when fishing on dusk caught shark after shark then gave upfishing you lucky bugger wish I was there
As they say , ' it's not always smooth sailing '. You can't deter me , Norm . When we're kids we paid for thrills at country shows in side show alley , just like this ride . Although 2mins as opposed to 5-8hrs. However, money invested , you're getting your moneys worth. 🦘🇭🇲👍
Yep..As long as it's abaft the beam I'll take it Dude.
well done. from a crusty old diesel mechanic. Just recently found your channel. Looking forward to catching up
Welcome aboard dude. Hope to see you out there somewhere.
Mon looks like she liked the decision to move 🎉
I would of used bigger words but it's to early
I liked it more. She seems to be able to sleep in the sloppy stuff.
Well the wind & rain isn't helping here on the Gold Coast tonight. Swinging around the anchor chain like a merry-go-round
Yep...better weather comming though dude.
you shoudl upload the full fireworks show looked great
They did. Thanks for comments.
Good morning captain enjoy your café
Always Dude.
Hey Norm I have just recently come across your channel and have been hooked ever since. I’m in the process of doing up a boat to cruise the east coast of Australia like you are. Your information in invaluable. Thanks very much much
No probs dude. Glad it helps. Thanks for watching.
Sound stuff Norm, we all need reminding of it. One thing you can do is choose the best model and the worst then see how they converge. And we all know which way that goes. A word of caution when using Willy weather. I love that app but I found that as we were going into Musgrave, the tide forecast put the dunnies underwater by about a metre and a half. I contacted them and they replied pretty quickly, explaining that back then they were using Gladstone tides. If you use their app for tides click on the little 'i' on the bottom left corner to see about the data. Sourced from the BOM and ANTT.
Thanks Norm. You’ve just reinforced our rules. No fixed timeframes. We have the premium version of windy that we use in the computer- feed in your boat speed and we’ve found passage planning to be quite simple. If only the weather was actually what the models say!
Yep. Sometimes they're a bit out, but usually OK. Thanks for watching.
Cheers Norm, great info for a newbie like myself.
Thanks for watching dude. Glad it helps.
Hey Norm, I don’t know if anyone else has pointed this out, but vid finishes at 12 minutes, then there’s about 4 minutes of black followed by a short repeat of the video at the end.
Yeah sorry dude. My bugger up.
Good vid Norm and great spot on GK. Windy obviously is NOT taking any information from our meteorologists in Brisbane as they cannot get a day right if they tried! 😂 - the only job I know that pays for continued failed information. 🎉
Harsh...but wonder sometimes
Yet they use the same source of data. A thing to bear in mind from BOM forecasts is that they are covering a large area. The granularity of Windy and Predict Wind is that they are much more focussed. For example I can be sitting off Green Island with 20kts Easterly and Brisbane Airport can be reporting 10kts Northerly. So the best Jenny is going to tell you is 15kts Noreaster. Which is wrong in both places but the average between them. I do shake my head and wonder how the airport can be so different from Hopes Banks, but ATIS tells no lies. Banana bank currently has 18kts gusts to 24. Brisbane has 3kts and the airport has 7. The BOM forecast for Brisbane is 8-10kts which is about (24 + 3 + 7)/3. I don't think they use this formula at all. The sailors would just use the crocodile jaw method, then throw a dice for the gusts.
Thanks for the video dude, useful info. 👍
Thanks for watching dude.
Senior moment Normie? 😂
Yep...Bit of a bugger up.
Great bumping into you both at GKI. It’d be interesting to hear how you find the radar on night passages.
Yeah mate. One coming up soon.
Thanks Norm looking forward to catching up one day when we get out there
You bet dude.
12 min story, 8 mins dead air, then repeats. Upload fail .
Yeah. Dude. Thanks for heads up. I'll fix.
Check out ‘Watch it navigation system” which links all your exsisting raymaine system in to one overwatch system with alarms
Thanks Norm, I must have deleted Windy , maybe got it confused with PredictWind which is not very accurate for Australia I think, it’s back installed now, did you notice your video has a big gap then loops back to the start , a bit like staying in the cinema to watch the start of a good movie again 😃
Thanks for info Dude.
That one way to upload a longer video 😂
Hey Norm It'd be good to see some coverage on the prevailing winds throughout the year especially on say the east coast of NSW & Qld - Cheers
I'll try to cover it. Thanks for the comment.
Having the same tech as the big boys makes a difference, and not just in boating.
Yep. Tech advances sooo quickly.
@Motor Sailing for Old Dudes Great Vid Norm very helpful I found Another useful App is zoom earth, where bom radar shows rain zoom earth shows the cloud to almost live times (10 minutes out I think)
Thx for the info however No info on choosing anchorages?
Thanks for the comment. Getting in the Lee of the land is the trick, but take swell into account too.
Wow , very noticeable the weight loss . Maybe camera angle. Love this episode content , especially seeing Mon doing the dream . Spurs me on with my goal , now 18months away. 🦘🇭🇲👍
Not long dude.
Thanks Norm very interesting - looking forward to seeing the new radar etc in action. - Cheers
Yep...Will get some work soon
What a great episode, love the chart showing where you are at! Thanks for sharing! 😎🇦🇺
Thanks for watching dude
Love the content. I live in Arizona, USA. But you motivate me to sail someday
You can do it Dude. It's a great life wherever you are.
Did you ever go into Merimbula, I’d like to see someone try that shallow bar before I do 😀
I'll keep it mind.
What did you do wrong? Bit hard to square the boat up to a wave in time when it comes at you on angle like that isn't it?
Not concentrating. A bit scary.
Couldn’t agree more.
Need a funeral business with all thesevaxd deaths.
Hmmm.
Stay upright to stay ahead of the devil. 🦘🇭🇲👍
Oh my,,,,pondering 😮😮😮
Only briefly dude.
